CRUKS

CRUKS (Centraal Register Uitsluiting Kansspelen) is the Netherlands' central gambling exclusion register, operated by the Dutch regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), blocking registered individuals from all licensed online casinos, betting sites and land-based venues.

CRUKS went live with the Dutch Remote Gambling Act (KOA) in October 2021 and supports both voluntary self-exclusion and involuntary registration, where the KSA can enter a player following a substantiated request from family members or an operator. The minimum exclusion period is six months.

The defining operational feature: licensed operators must query CRUKS before every registration and every login session — a real-time check against the register using the player's BSN-derived CRUKS code. No check, no play: if the CRUKS service is unreachable, operators may not let players gamble, which makes integration resilience a genuine architecture concern.

Licensees must also feed their own duty-of-care process: players showing signs of harm who refuse intervention can be escalated toward CRUKS registration.
